Texas Jury Sentences Man Who Burned Infant In Microwave Save Email Print

A | A | A

(March 26, 2008)--A jury Wednesday in Galveston sentenced a young father to 25 years in prison for severely burning his infant daughter when he put her in a microwave and turned it on for up to 20 seconds.

Jurors deliberated for 6 1/2 hours over two days before sentencing Joshua Mauldin Wednesday.

They also fined him $10,000.

Jurors Tuesday rejected Mauldin's claims that he was insane when he stuffed his daughter, Ana, in a Galveston motel microwave last May and convicted the 20-year-old of felony injury to a child.

Punishment could have ranged from probation to life in prison.

Prosecutors asked jurors not to forget what Mauldin had done to his then-two-month-old daughter and give him a life sentence.

The defense asked jurors to consider Mauldin's long history of mental illness and give him probation.

The girl is now with other relatives.

All these stories of babies getting abused break my heart, knowing how hard it is for others to have children and people can treat these precious gifts like trash. I just don't understand how its possible. Anyone who can do this needs to be put away for life, this sentence just isn't long enough to make up for the life he almost consumed.

That's not near enough time in the pen. He'll be out before she gets out of school.

I think he should have gotten the death penalty.... no, wait... that would have been too humane. I hope that Hades has an extra large mircowave ready for him when he dies!
