Tejano Music Star Regains Consciousness, But Remains In Critical Condition

(March 27, 2008)--Doctors in Houston say Tejano music star Emilio Navaira is regaining consciousness after a wreck while driving his tour bus.

Officials at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center say Navaira opened his eyes and moved his arms and legs Wednesday night.

He remains hospitalized in critical condition with brain injuries.

The 45-year-old singer early Sunday was thrown through the windshield of his tour bus when it slammed into a collection of freeway barrels in the Houston area.

He has undergone have two brain surgeries, the most recent one Tuesday evening.

The wreck remains under investigation.

Several members of Navaira's band suffered less serious injuries.

The group had planned to be in California for a tour starting this weekend.
