Police Department That Was Almost Disbanded Arrests Wanted Fugitive Save Email Print

A | A | A

(March 27, 2008)—Almost two months to the day after the McGregor City Council voted not to disband the town’s police department, the community’s new police chief and assistant police chief arrested one of the area’s most-wanted fugitives Thursday.

Police Chief Steve Foster and Assistant Police Chief James Burson found Paul Jeffrey Valentine putting a battery in a car Thursday afternoon and arrested him without incident.

Valentine was on the Waco Crime Stoppers’ ten most-wanted list for forgery and theft.

He was taken to the McLennan County Jail.

Foster is a former Texas Ranger and Burson is a former Texas Department of Public Safety auto theft taskforce officer.

Between them, the two have 60 years of experience in law enforcement.

McGregor’s Police Department has had a half-dozen police chiefs in the past decade and that instability along with budget concerns figured in the consideration of the proposal to disband the department and to turn over law enforcement responsibility to the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office.

But in late January, the council rejected the proposal to disband the 12-member force.

A week later, Police Chief Ron Wadkins and Lt. Chris Molina resigned.

Foster and Burson told News Ten Thursday they’re working to replace the department’s fleet of police vehicles and to standardize equipment in a first step toward raising professional standards.

So "white trash"....I take it you don't do business with the Cefco anymore? Too bad!

And fyi, 'white trash'...i dont like snitches either but when it comes to the law and protecting our community, then I say Kudos to those at the Cefco for doing that....its another way to keep our streets safe. I work in McGregor and its just as much my community as any one elses...If people weren't committing crimes, they wouldnt have to worry about being 'wanted by the law' and being 'snitched' on...and once again..kudos to the one you know who reports people that are wanted by the law....

Way to Go McGregor! Kudos to you for taking more trash off our streets! Looks like having a new chief and the assistant cheif will do some great good in our community..And to Cynthia, I deeply sorry for the loss of your son and I too agree, that more should have and should still be done and proper investigation should be done in the death of Joshua...But you should give Chief Foster more credit. There's still a chance he may reopen the case and do more investigating to find out what really happened to your son. I pray that you dont hold so much hatred toward some people, even though some may deserve it....I pray that you stop holding grudges and I hope that you fing peace one day and find out how your son really did die so that you may find closure.......

Hurrah for the Rangers! Once a Ranger, always a Ranger! Does anyone know why KWTX stopped carrying the Copperas Cove reader comments? Is it political? There were lots more entries on that particular story and more little "tidbits of news" in one day than most of the stories on here get in a week. It was interesting to read them.

Good for McGregor! You can't get any better than a Texas Ranger and DPS. I think these 2 chiefs will serve this community well.

Ooohh!!!!! McGregor CAN arrest someone!! Yet, they can't/won't talk about my son, Joshua, who died in Amsler Park. My son's death didn't even get this much coverage???!!

This guy looks like he could kill you if given a chance. Yeah, for the police department!

The really good thing about this is that they care about the safety of the pubic. They are trying to catch people who will be dangerous to the general public. Thank you for your concerns.

Let's worry about a battery when McGregor still hasn't explained the questionable death of my son, Joshua Robinson, in Amsler Park! Since I've begun MY investigation, as McGregor Police did NOT investigate, all the original personnel, and then some, have resigned from McGregor~~hmmm? It was only 10 days after I sent an Internal Affairs complaint to the Texas Rangers, that Interim Chief Foster took over. hmmmm????????? I have spoken with him, it was obvious that he had taken a biased opinion of this case and me. "Red-purple parenchyma with pulmonary edema" is NOT going to cause death!!!!!! I learned basic forensics, rigor mortis, cadaveric spasm, etc. and the Interim Chief asks if I'm an investigator. NO, but at least, I investigated. I would think a new chief would have an OPEN mind to the possiblity of dirty tactics by cops he didn't know in McGregor!!!!!

i was for sure it was going to say they caught a kidnapper, rapist, or murderer... not a thief/forger.. oh well more power to them for taking more trash off the street.
