(March 27, 2008)—Police throughout Central Texas are on the lookout for a truck like the one pictured above whose driver attempted to run down an Austin police officer who had responded to a disturbance Sunday.
The officer was trying to stop the truck in which three white or Hispanic men were riding during the disturbance at 2 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Colorado Street in Austin.
When he asked the driver to turn off the engine, the man instead turned the wheel toward the officer and stepped on the gas.
The truck struck the officer on his knees and shins as it sped off.
He escaped serious injury, but did have abrasions and bruising.
The truck officers are looking for is a 2007 or 2008 model black Chevy 4X4 with temporary buyer’s plates displaying the date 04/01.
Austin police are asking the public and particularly employees of car dealerships where the truck may have been purchased earlier this month for help in finding the pickup and its occupants.
Anyone with information should call Austin police Downtown Area Command Detectives at (512) 974-5777.
