Police Searching Thursday For Suspects Who Shot At Local Officers

By: Paul J. Gately Email

WACO (September 27, 2012)-Police were looking for a suspect or suspects who fired shots at officers late Wednesday in a south Waco neighborhood.

Waco police records show officers were on patrol near Bell's Hill Park, just off S. 26th St. near the railroad tracks, when one officer heard shots fired in his direction.

The patrolman called for backup and officers began an extensive search of the neighborhood area.

Several patrol officers, a K-9 unit and a Department of Public Safety helicopter were sent to assist, said Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton.

Police did stop a car with two people inside at 23rd St. and Clay Ave. and during a search of the car found a handgun, but no arrests were made, Swanton said.

A police spokesman said no description of suspects or vehicles was yet available.

No officers were injured.

Police units still were in the area at 6 a.m. searching for evidence and talking with neighbors.
