Sinking Belle To Get Bailed Out? Save Email Print

A | A | A

(March 31, 2008) -- As the Brazos Bell slowly sinks, the City of Waco is weighing its options for fixing up or getting rid of the riverside eyesore.

The city is still looking into three main options.

The first would be to find someone to remove the Belle.

It could also sell the boat as part of a tax warrant sale, since the city is owed back taxes for the land where the Belle is docked.

The third option is to have someone buy it free and clear from the current owner.

Regardless of what option is chosen, city officials say they want something done, and soon.

"it needs to be up and out, needs to be out or floating, that is that, said City Manager Larry Groth. "It needs to be fixed or needs to be out of there but right now we are waiting and trying to show some amount of restraint"

City leaders hope by this time next month one of the groups it has talked to will be in a position to do something with the Belle.

I really dont know too much of the history of the Brazos Belle, but I think it would be a shame for the city to let it go as it is (was) a unique attraction to the city and I for one would love to revisit the location and take my 8 year old daughter aboard for a special dining experience. I agree with Donna, even from many miles south....save the Brazos Belle

I for one would like to see the Brazos Belle afloat again and would like to know how I can help. I ate on that restaurant years ago with my husband(who died in 2003) but it was a great time being with him on a popular riverboat.I am disabled now but would like to help.If there is anything that I can do please email me or call me @ 254-393-1224.You should get the owner to pay up!He took the responsiablity to have the riverboat as a restuarant. It can still be a famous site in Waco,if everyone would help! Save the Brazos Belle!

ive been on the belle many times, before it ever went under water, the belle is rigidly fastened to the pier, it didnt sink, the river got higher. if it was just allowed to float it would have probably been alright.
