WACO (September 28, 2012)—A Waco man was sentenced to federal prison time Thursday after he earlier pleaded guilty to embezzling funds from a local union.

Judge Walter S. Smith sentenced Andrew Irwin to 10 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years on supervised released, ordered him to pay $47,096.33 in restitution and pay a $100 special assessment to the court.

Irwin admitted at his plea hearing that he, while a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local 72, in Waco, embezzled nearly $48,000 in union funds.

Irwin at the time was the local group's financial secretary.
