The Texas State Teachers Association will receive $100,000 Tuesday from the National Education Association as part of the organization’s continuing Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

NEA President Reg Weaver plans to visit with students and teachers in Houston as part of a multi-state trip to areas affected by Katrina.

The donation will be used to help students and public school employees cover the costs of such items as school supplies, school uniforms, food, housing and clothing.

More than 60,000 displaced students have enrolled in Texas schools, include more than 300 in Killeen and more than 60 in the Waco area.
"It is our responsibility to help ensure that students, schools and public school employees across the state have the necessary resources to continue with their lives and their education," Weaver said.
