KILLEEN (October 5, 2012)—A late-night shooting in a Killeen neighborhood left one soldier dead and a second soldier injured.

A local resident who was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting was later released pending further investigation, police said Friday evening.

Police identified the dead man as Jamie Lee Schnider, 22.

The other victim, a 21-year-old soldier, who was shot in the upper torso, was taken first to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, and then was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

His name wasn’t immediately released, but police said he was in stable condition Friday.

The shooting evidently resulted from what started as an argument that started after three men confronted a resident at a home at 3601 Holbert Dr. in Killeen.

The argument turned physical when one of the men attacked the resident, police said, and shots were fired.

The shooting was reported just before 11 p.m.

Schnider was pronounced dead just after 11:35 p.m.

An autopsy was ordered.

Officers took the resident of the home into custody, but he was later released.
