Prison Inmates Moved To Central Texas
Thousands of state inmates are being moved to Central Texas prison facilities as Hurricane Rita approaches.

More than, 5,000 Texas inmates are being evacuated as Hurricane Rita approaches and many of them are being moved to prison units in Huntsville and Gatesville.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has ordered the following units evacuated:

Nearly 1,100 inmates from the Scott Unit in Angleton are moving to the Ellis Unit in Huntsville and the Ferguson Unit in Midway.

More than 1,100 inmates in the Clemens Unit in Brazoria are moving to the Hightower Unit in Dayton, Wynne Unit in Huntsville and Estelle Unit in Huntsville.

Almost 1,600 inmates from the Terrell Unit in Rosharon are moving to the Lewis Unit in Woodville, Polunsky Unit in Livingston and the Eastham Unit in Lovelady.

Nearly 1,100 inmates in the Jester Three Unit in Richmond are moving to the Jester Four Unit in Richmond, the Jester One Unit in Richmond and the Central Unit in Sugarland.

About 400 inmates in the Young Unit in Texas City are moving to Plane State Jail in Dayton, Gatesville Unit in Gatesville and the Estelle Unit in Huntsville.
