Texas Boy, 10, Shoots Teenage Sister, Kills Himself

HUNTSVILLE (October 12, 2012)—Walker County authorities say a 10-year-old boy shot and wounded his 15-year-old sister before fatally shooting himself Thursday night at the family’s home outside of Huntsville.

Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae said Friday that the boy walked into his sister's room and fired several times in her direction before turning the gun on himself.

McRae says the children’s mother was at home at the time.

She called 911 after hearing the shots and going to see what happened.

Deputies were sent at about 9:30 p.m. to the house at State Highway 30 and Duke Road, about 17 miles west of Huntsville.

The siblings were taken by helicopter to a Houston hospital about 70 miles to the south.

The boy was pronounced dead and his sister underwent surgery.

McRae says she was listed Friday in critical but stable condition.

He says the case remains under investigation.
