Former North Texas nurse Vickie Dawn Jackson, who’s charged with killing ten patients, is competent to stand trial, a psychiatrist appointed to examine her says.
A judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation after Jackson reported hearing voices in May.
Two Dallas-area doctors examined Jackson last month, and one submitted her report this week.
Montague County District Attorney Tim Cole expects the same competency finding from the other psychiatrist.
Cole says both doctors often work together and have discussed the case.
Jackson's attorney Bruce Martin has said he would not challenge the psychiatric exam results for his client, who formerly worked at Nocona General Hospital.
The defense claims Jackson's mistrial earlier this year was caused by a prosecutor's intentional error. Prosecutors say it was an accident and that they never wanted a mistrial.
A hearing on the double jeopardy issue is set for next month.
Jackson, who's maintained her innocence, faces up to life in prison if convicted of capital murder.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty.
