(April 8, 2008)—The Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees Tuesday named Dr. Robin Battershell as the lone finalist for the superintendent’s job.
Battershell is now superintendent of the Salado ISD.
By law the board must wait 21 days before voting to hire Battershell.
That will happen on May 1.
Battershell will replace School Superintendent Beto Gonazlez, who announced in August 2007 he was leaving after a little more than a year on the job to become deputy superintendent of the Brownsville School District.
Gonzalez’ last day was Sept. 7, 2007.
Gonzalez was the district’s third superintendent in the last two-and-a-half years.
Dr. Jim Boyle and Dr. Pamela Harrison both left the post before their contracts ended.
In late November Temple school trustees voted to hire a consulting firm to conduct the search for a new superintendent.
The consultants received 45 applications from candidates in Texas and eight other states, the district said.
In March, trustees said they planned to interview five candidates for the job, but did not release the names.
Two of the candidates were invited back for second interviews on April 2 and 3 and Battershell was selected after those were completed.
Battershell has been superintendent of the Salado ISD for the last ten years.
She has a doctorate in education from Baylor University.
She started her career as a 3rd grade teacher.
She worked in the Killeen ISD as a special education counselor and supervisor, coordinator of special programs and served as interim director of curriculum.
She was executive director of the Greater Fort Hood Communities in Schools program and served as a consultant to the National Communities in Schools program in Washington, D.C.
She is an adjunct professor at Tarleton State University and at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
