(April 8, 2008)—The storms that swept through Central Texas Tuesday night produced gusty winds, heavy rain, hail and at least one confirmed tornado.

An emergency manager in Coryell County confirmed late Tuesday night that a tornado touched down at 8:23 p.m. about two miles south of Arnett, which is about 10 miles west of Gatesville.

Coryell County Sheriff's deputies were combing the area after getting reports of damage.

There were other reports of possible tornadoes and warnings were issued for Lampasas, Hamilton, Coryell and Bell Counties during the night.

Large hail was reported in Coryell, Hamilton and Lampasas Counties; in some cases the hail was as large as golf balls, according to National Weather Service storm reports.

Severe storms are possible again Wednesday and Wednesday night.

God flooded the earth? lol Maybe god flooded our toilet last week too!! lol! I s'pose you got some 'splaining to do!! Anyway im more apt to believe in climate change/shifting than global warming! Its a shame though because we may lose species whose habitats will eventually no longer support them! Think about last years hurricane season. It was very tame. This season we may be so lucky! Who knows another devastating hurricane could hit new orleans undoing all the rebuilding that has taken place! About using fear to influence people...Al Gore is definitely not the biggest offender!

I have been away from Waco for many years, but I have not forgotten that indeed this is the beginning of our "tornado season" and most likely not much more, if any thing remotely related to global warming. Have so many people in the great communities of Central Texas forgotten the infamous tornado of 1953? I wasn't here (in fact I was only a year old), but I definitely know of it. Now if you really want something juicy to talk about and to ponder... Sharpen your investigative resources and check into the upcoming phenomenon of the reversal of the magnetic poles. If you want a starting place, try searching the archives of National Geographic. Now there is something you can chew the fat for a few days. If you want to do a little local verification, just a knowledgeable instrument rated pilot why aviation charts change magnetic deviation every so often for the same area. They may not know the answer, but they do know the deviations do change.

Lauren you need to go hug a tree and quit spouting false truths. Global warming is nothing more than Al Gore and many more just like him trying to scare the world to death. It has been studied and many scientists, climatologists and the likes will tell you that the info that they are putting out is false. Even the director of the Weather Channel said it was a crock and suggested Gore be punished for spreading lies. I agree that as humans we are not always kind to Mother Earth, but I don't think that we are changing the tides and turning up the thermostat either. There is evidence to suggest that the Earth's temp is actually cooler, but you won't hear them admit it. Our planet is just ever changing, but by nature and not man. Tornado's happen during the Spring, just like hurricanes happen during the Fall. We have periods of drought, then we have abundance of rain. This is nothing new. It's just the weather.

Lauren, this is not the first time I have seen you bring up global warming. I would not deny the fact that man is having some level of impact on earth but I would likely believe more in global CLIMATE change caused by regualr climate cycles. Global Warming will only get worse the longer Al Gore keeps emitting CO2 from his mouth. My 90 year old relatives out here have seen MUCH worse weather out here in their lifetimes than what was experienced last night or last year.

*LAUREN* Yes global warming does exist and do not think that anyone is denying it. Just because a tornado touches doen somewhere does not mean it is global warming. So does that mean when Hurricane Katrina hit that was caused by global warming? MMMMM I think not.

I s'pose that each of you believe that when God flooded the earth it was "global warming" and then the "ice age" was global warming too! GET A GRIP! The earth is a living thing and is ever changing!!!!!

Posted by: Lauren Location: Coolidge on Apr 10, 2008 at 09:35 AM
yes i know it is tornado season. But global warming does exist and no one should deny that.

Posted by: Lauren Location: Coolidge on Apr 10, 2008 at 09:15 AM
all of the ice caps are melting but that does not mean global warming is real ha ha?I mean doesen`t anyone watch CNN and plus all the canidates for president even mention it? But it is not real? funny

Posted by: Lauren Location: Coolidge on Apr 10, 2008 at 09:07 AM
thanks tipper from belton for agreeing with me. hasen`t anyone seen the movie an inconvient truth about global warming? duh or the commercials with the polar bears swimming because the ice has melted. I mean their is more to the world than TEXAS!

Come on, everyone...those of you that think it's global warming really need to wake up. Most of your group must not be from Central Texas. This is a natural happening in our part of the world; when spring arrives, so do storms like this. It's not a matter of if...it's a matter of when a tornado will strike any given location. And what's more, it can really happen at any time of year. We've had storms like this in the dead of winter. What simply matters most is to have your families ready should a storm potentially strike where you live.

Posted by: tipper Location: belton on Apr 9, 2008 at 02:38 PM
When I was growing up we never had tornadoes year round like we do now. Or hot winters and extremely hot summers. Global warming is here. Some people just like to ignore it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 9, 2008 at 10:46 AM
OH PLEASE! We had these kind of storms when I was growing up. It's not global warming.....that's a crock of _____! The earth has it's cycle. It's just that the people who claim it is 'global warming' were not here 150 to 200 years ago to see the earth's cycle! When I was growing up, I remember winters here in Central Texas, we had a foot of snow at times. Now look at the winters, hardly any snow! Was that GOLBAL WARMING 35 to 40 years ago? NO, just the earth cycle!

If you buy into the global warming theory i have some ocean front property in bell county i would like to sell to you. go check your planets history. we are in a constant change. the earth is a living beathing thing.

How does a typical spring storm in Texas mean that global warming is in full force?

Posted by: Jessica on Apr 9, 2008 at 09:37 AM
I do not think that global warming has anything to do with this. It is the start of tornado seaon here in central tx.

Posted by: Lauren Location: Coolidge on Apr 9, 2008 at 09:13 AM
