KILLEEN (October 22, 2012)--Killeen Police on Monday were investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that Sunday afternoon took the life of a Fort Hood soldier.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said Timothy Laurence Singletary, a Fort Hood soldier, was pronounced dead at 2:41p.m. Sunday by medical authorities at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

The accident happened at about 2 p.m. in the 400 block of south Fort Hood St. and involved a motorcycle and another vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene they found Singletary, 37, lying in the roadway.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on south Fort Hood St. just north of Hallmark and a white Dodge Charger was pulling out of a parking lot in the 400 block of south Fort Hood St., attempting to make a left turn to travel southbound.

Officers said the motorcycle struck the rear of the Charger near the center turn lane.

Upon impact the rider was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest in the northbound lanes of Fort Hood St.

Smith said a second vehicle, which officers said was a white and red Honda Civic, was traveling northbound and was unable to avoid the motorcyclist who was lying in the roadway and ran over him.

Singletary was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he died from his injuries, Smith said.

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Division is continuing to investigate this crash, Smith said.
