(April 12, 2008)—Jurors in Tarrant County jury have sentenced an Azle woman to five years in prison for stealing a mentally impaired man's life savings.

They also levied a $10,000 fine against 46-year-old Cynthia Sue Hardee and then donated the $166 they were to receive collectively for their jury service to the 58-year-old victim, Johnny Bryant of Fort Worth.

Prosecutor Joe Shannon says he donated another $250 to the fund.

Witnesses testified that Bryant, who cannot read or do math, had amassed $151,000 in a profit-sharing account in more than 30 years of shelf stocking at Fort Worth-area supermarkets.

When a supermarket where he was working was sold, Bryant withdrew his retirement money.

Hardee helped him open a checking account, saying the two would go into business together, but the enterprise never panned out.
