Flow Of Illegal Immigrants From Central America Slows Save Email Print

(April 13, 2008)--For thousands of illegal immigrants from Central America, the long journey to the United States starts on the groaning back of a freight train they call The Beast, but these days many don't get too far.

Central Americans without documents now face increased security within Mexico, including checks on the train for stowaways and it’s also harder for them to head north once they cross into Mexico because of hurricane damage to the train tracks.

As a result, the number of non-Mexican migrants stopped by the U.S. Border Patrol has dropped almost 60 percent from 2005, despite increased detention efforts.

About 68,000 non-Mexican migrants, most of them Central Americans, were detained last year, compared to 165,000 in 2005.

Non-Mexicans make up about 10 percent of all migrants caught by Border Patrol officers.

Mexico is also seeing fewer illegal immigrants.

Mexico's national Immigration Institute says 120,000 were arrested last year, which is a 50 percent drop from 2005, when Hurricane Stan hit and destroyed the railroad.

Since President Felipe Calderon took office two years ago, Mexico has added more soldiers and federal police on its border with Guatemala and more immigration and military checkpoints throughout the south.

Despite its efforts to secure its own southern border, Mexico doesn't try to stop its own citizens from crossing north illegally into the United States.

That's because Mexico only polices it's southern border. They won't do anything at the northern border because their gross national prouduct is illegals in the USA.

I'm still in favor of 50 cal being mounted on that wall/fence. Thats one hell of a deterrent.

Meanwhile.. Perry still asleep at the wheel while hundreds of illegals flock to Texas every day. With other states enforcing immigration laws they are headed here.

Good! Maybe we can start sending them back to wherever they came from. If they come here legally, fine. I welcome them with open arms. But illegal aliens are illegal aliens, not "undocumented workers". They're illegal, send them home!

So only 10% of all migrants caught by border patrol are Non Mexicans. Who would have guessed? lol.. So much for the defense of illegals {they're not all Mexicans}. I'd say 90% pretty much sums it up!

It's the last sentence here that galls me! Even though Mexico guards it's southern border to keep those "nasty ole illegals" from entering their country, they don't make any effort to stop their people from coming here illegally. That's because their illegals are their most profitable export. The illegals only spend what they have to here to get by, and send all their money back to Mexico. And they try to convince us that we "need" them. HA!

Gerry, yeah that is messed up. Calderon knows that our government wants to give millions of illegals here a small fine (slap on the hand), then quick citizenship. They say want to keep families together. But what defines a family? Grown childern, grandparents, grandchildern, aunts, uncles, cousins.....where does it end?? What is Claderon and his government's real objective when it comes to his Mexican citizens becoming U.S. citizens?? To me, it's black and white ... no gray area.

Calderon putting soldiers on their southern border? And he has the gall to complain when we put guardsmen on ours. What a hypocrit.

i wish we were as tough on imigration as mexico is. i love to hear mexico complain about all the illeagals coming across thier border from central america. what goes around comes around, mexico.

And guess who is paying for Mexico's extra security and guarding their southern border?? Any guess? YOU! We won't secure our own border but send them millions to secure theirs..
