Another Marine assiged to the same unit died in a suicide car bomb attack during operations near Hit, officials said.
Meanwhile Tuesday medical officials say a roadside bomb targeting a U.S. military convoy in Baghdad has wounded at least 29 civilians.
The bomb exploded as the convoy was about to drive into a tunnel in the city's center and left a yard-wide crater.
An Iraqi official says it appears two Humvees were damaged.
Charred Humvee parts littered the explosion site and seven civilian cars were also badly damaged.
Three U.S. military personnel and two civilian interpreters assigned to a police transition team were injured in the attack, officials said.
Two soldiers and one interpreter were later transported by helicopter to a combat support hospitall, officials said.
