(April 14, 2008)--Authorities are hoping to recover enough DNA from a lower leg found on a South Padre Island beach to identify the owner.

Cameron County Park Ranger Lt. Arnold Flores says there was little left of the leg, but bone when it was found Sunday.

But the foot was still encased in a black tennis shoe and barnacles had begun to attach themselves.

Passers-by found the leg toward the southern end of the island.

Flores says that with a prevailing wind from the south, the leg could have floated up the coast or even out of the Rio Grande where it flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
