COPPERAS COVE (November 6, 2012)—John Russell Lightner, 34, of Killeen, has been arrested in the September robbery of the Fort Hood National Bank branch in Copperas Cove, police said Tuesday.

Killeen police arrested Lightner after a traffic stop on Oct. 22, Cove police said, and later turned him over to the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Waco, where he’s held without bond, police said Tuesday.

The robbery was reported just before 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 27 at the Fort bank at 210 Constitution Drive Suite B.

The robber, who was armed with a handgun, handed a note to the teller, a 29-year-old Copperas Cove woman who was not harmed in the holdup, and demanded money.

He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white passenger car.

A short time after the robbery, officers stopped an SUV on West U.S. Highway 190, but after further investigation the driver was determined not to have been involved in the robbery and was released.
