(April 16, 2008)--The former drummer for Waco rocker Ted Nugent has been found dead of an apparent suicide.

Clifford Davies was found dead from a gunshot wound at his home outside Atlanta, Cpl. Brandon Gurley of the Paulding County, Ga., Sheriff's Department said.

Gurley said authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Reed Beaver, who owns a studio where Davies was a chief engineer, confirmed Davies played on "Cat Scratch Fever."

Davies was among the musicians who backed Nugent during the 1970s on such classic albums as “Catch Scratch Fever” and “Stranglehold.”

Beaver said Davies called him Saturday "extremely distraught" over money for medical bills.

Jimmy, I'm sure this man had a family. How horrible it is that people like you find humor even in someone's death. I'm sure he was admired for a lot more in his life than his initiative to end it when sick. I hope you never have problems and hope that you are always "strong" enough to cope with them when you do!

Tragic how old was he?

It is the easy way out. Staying around, dealing with the problems, is more difficult. I admire the drummer's initiative, though. He found a way to take care of his medical bills.
