Good morning, it’s Thursday, April 17, the 108th day of 2008. There are 258 days left in the year. The day begins in the lower 60s and by this afternoon highs will reach the mid 70s. By tonight, showers and thunderstorms are a possibility.

Thirty-eight years ago today, Apollo XIII splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, four days after a ruptured oxygen tank damaged the spacecraft and resulted in a loss of oxygen and electrical power. The crew used the Lunar Module as a sort of lifeboat while power to the command module was shut down until re-entry. There was no lunar landing, but the mission was called a “Successful Failure.”
