WACO (May 31, 2014) Southbound traffic on I-35 backed up Saturday night after an 18-wheeler ended up hanging partly off of the bridge over the Brazos River directly across from Baylor’s McLane Stadium.
The truck’s fuel tanks ruptured and a hazardous materials team was sent to the site to control the spill and keep the fuel from flowing into the river, the Texas Department of Transportation said.
At one point all lanes of the southbound highway were closed to traffic, TxDOT said, but two lanes had been reopened by around 10:20 p.m.
By 11 p.m. the rig had been moved, but repairs to the damaged barrier wall were expected to take several hours to complete, TxDOT said.
Repairs were finished and the remaining lane was reopened just after midnight, however, TxDOT said.
No further details were immediately available.
