BRUCEVILLE-EDDY (September 4, 2013)—An 18-wheeler fire was backing up northbound traffic on Interstate 35 late Wednesday morning in the Bruceville-Eddy area between Waco and Temple.
The fire was reported at around 11 a.m.
The Texas Department of Transportation advised northbound drivers to seek alternative routes until the scene is cleared.
The driver suffered a minor arm and burns, but did not require hospital treatment.
Damaged was restricted to the cab.
The driver told authorities the truck's fuel lines had just been replaced.
He said he pulled over when he smelled oil and was able to detach the cab from the trailer before the fire broke out.
Traffic was restricted to one lane early Wednesday afternoon and was backed up five to six miles, TxDOT said.
The right lane will be reopened after a hazmat contractor cleans up the site, which was expected to happen by around 1:30 p.m.
