(April 22, 2008)—Waco’s Methodist Home has been ready since earlier this month to accommodate about two-dozen of the more than 400 children removed from a West Texas polygamist compound.

Tuesday Child Protective Services confirmed that some of the 437 children now in state custody would be housed there at least temporarily after a judge’s order Tuesday cleared the way to put the children in foster care.

For the last two weeks, the children have been housed in San Angelo’s city coliseum.

Lawyers inside the coliseum who were meeting Tuesday with their adult or child clients say Children's Protective Services installed tight security and no one was allowed in or out of the coliseum while the children were loaded onto buses.

State district Judge Barbara Walther signed the order earlier Tuesday allowing the state to begin moving the children into temporary foster care facilities including group homes or other privately run facilities while the state completes DNA testing of the 437 children and at least 175 adults and until individual custody hearings can be completed by June.

In a press release, CPS said most of the facilities to which children will be transferred “have the ability to keep these children separate from the other children currently placed at the facility.”

It said information about the background and culture of the children has been provided to the facilities.

In 1993, the Methodist Home sheltered children who left the Branch Davidian compound during the 51-day standoff outside of Waco.

Me in Central Texas... you just did condone unlawful actions!! Do you know a underaged mother who's parents pushed their daughter to have sex?? If so, they need to be behind bars. It's (rape) any way you look at it. Prehaps you need to move on with your life and stop dwelling on your Branch Davidians.........

Yeah they definately need to be deprogramed.

While I cannot condone ANY unlawful actions, I cannot see why a piece of paper makes these men any different than the players who go around fathering children with multiple women. At least most of these children know who their fathers are. Shall we arrest the players, to avoid the hypocrisy? Then, perhaps, we could have all underaged mothers arrested, and their children removed from their care?

I am a parent of a 2nd grader at K-P and I was very pleased with the way things were taken care of yesterday. My child came home safe and sound. She was not worried or upset. She felt save enough to even fall asleep during the whole thing. I want to thank everyone who was there and taking care of all our children! The school even sent home a note to let us know what had taken place. Thank you for all you do each and every day! We think K-P is the best!

These children need support and guidance. They will have a long journey as they are "deprogrammed" and I am sure Waco is ready and willing to accept this opportunity to help these youngsters outside their compound. If I could, I would love to "foster" a couple of these children myself and if the opportunity arises, I will be requesting an application. Best wishes to all of these children and the others that have been placed throughout the state. They deserve normal surroundings and help from all of us.

The illegal money they are receiving from the outside world (you & me) isn't bursting into flames when they touch it. The men don't burst into flames either when they go to their outside jobs because they believe they are gods, untouchable and above the law. Taxpayers have been (stepped on) by this cult, paying for welfare and AFDC to these polygamist women, popping babies out for their men. And btw, most of tax money we pay to them goes into the (prophet's) bank account, with maybe 2 exceptions .... material for prairie dresses and unlimited cans of hairspray.

Cynthia, alot of (ousted) members of the FLD cult on the Arizon/Utah border say it's easy to get false documents because of male members working everywhere from the local sheriff's dept. to SSI dept. in that area.---- ERIN, authorities had no idea what was on the other side of the wall that no outsider had been before. The children where waiving at the media on the bus. I guess they've realized they won't burst into flames!! You can't abuse children or our tax dollars in the name of religion. Understand the facts before you post!

I wouldn't have made any comparision if they hadn't gone in, in the same manor. The rolled on the compound in ARMORED VEHICLES, in full swat gear. I say "Yes", protect the one's at risk. The girls at or around the age to be in danger. But there are toddlers that have had thier entire world distroyed. Do you have children? I am a mother of 2 young children and can't imagion ever allowing them to be as terrified as those little kid are right now. These people teach that exposure to the outside would could literally cause them to burst into FLAMES. And here they are now being forced to live in this world. I don't agree w/ the teachings but we do live in a nation built on freedoms. No, that doesn't give the right for grown men to force themselves on young girl's but it does still give religious right I agree they have been stepped on by the state.

No Erin, Texas is setting an example to Utah, Arizona and Colorado to "uphold" the laws of the country and state.... polygamy & underage marriage (sexual child abuse). Stop comparing this to Branch Davidians. There's been no one shot or burned to death. And a spanking is different than forcing a 13 yr old girl to marry a 50 yr old man.....that is just sick!

As I watched "Nancy Grace" this evening, it was told that these women and children receive welfare/AFDC payments from the State of Texas, without birth certificates/Social Security Numbers. How can this be, everyone knows that we are a number! Who was the intake officer that approved these benefits for these women and why aren't they required to "register" their children to receive benefits? How much government money is going into this compound? I was led to believe that AFDC pays benefits to custodial parents that don't have support from the fathers......... I'm Confused!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been to the Methodist Home in Waco, it provided 24 hour counseling and a loving environment. I wish these children the best future possible.

I feel that this is beginning to become a witch hunt. In any home if you delve deep enough you can find reasons for unjust actions. I may have spanked my child too hard once, who is to say? I think this may be one more thing Texas won't live down.
