ROBINSON (November 22, 2012)—A third man was in custody Thursday in the McLennan County Jail after his arrest Wednesday night in connection with the July beating death of a Robinson man.

Joe Orlando Gutierrez, 29, was booked into the jail overnight after his arrest on a murder warrant.

A spokesman for police said Gutierrez was arrested at about 9 p.m. by Waco police, then turned over to Robinson officers to be taken to the county jail.

A booking clerk at the jail Thursday morning said Gutierrez had not yet had a bond set but the jail magistrate would likely formally arraign him and set a bond later in the day.

Gutierrez is the third man arrested in connection with the July beating death of Matthew Ray Easley, 56, who was attacked in his home in Robinson.

Shane Tyler Sims, 28, was arrested October 10 on a warrant charging murder and was being held Thursday on a $250,000 bond, charged with murder.

On July 13, Clinton Douglas Mills, 30, of Hewitt, was arrested on an aggravated assault warrant stemming from the attack and the charge later was upgraded to murder.

He posted a $500,000 bond and was released but Thursday was listed on the jail log as having had his bond revoked on the murder charge and is being held without bond following
his return to jail on Oct. 4 on a driving while intoxicated charge out of Travis County.

Relatives found Easley unconscious in his home just before noon on July 11.

He died several days later at a local hospital after he was taken off life support.

Easley was the victim of an earlier attack in August 2010.

Police don't believe the two were related.
