In addition to the human, financial and civic losses racked up by Hurricane Katrina, there is another lurking danger.

Authorities are warning people in the Gulf Coast they need to be on guard against identity theft.

There are things like Social Security cards, driver's licenses, credit cards and other personal documents literally floating around New Orleans and such documents are likely to be easy pickings for those up to no good.

An attorney with the Federal Trade Commission says so far there have been no identity theft complaints yet, but officials warn storm victims they should take steps to avoid falling victim to
identity theft.
