(April 26, 2008)--A 7-year-old South Florida boy faces grand theft auto charges after taking his grandmother's Dodge Durango for a joyride, police said.

The eight-minute trek left a swath of damage in his Palm Beach Gardens neighborhood Friday as the boy smashed mailboxes, hit parked cars and signposts.

He was unhurt.

Police say the boy kept driving until a front wheel fell off after the SUV hit a sign.

The boy's mother says he grabbed the keys to the SUV, backed it out of her driveway, and took off.

Police spokeswoman Ellen Lovejoy says the boy is unlikely to be prosecuted.

She said police arrested him so he can get some help, noting the excursion was "unusual behavior for a 7-year-old."

I'm guessing his favorite video game is Grand Theft Auto IV. Very popular right now with the hood rats. Check this kid out on YouTube. He's a cute little felon.

Yes, he should have been watched. BUT he should first have been taught not to steal or endanger himself and others. When I was that age I knew better. But then I had been spanked and otherwise disciplined for much smaller infringements so it never entered my mind to steal a car.

Take that kid up by the seat of his pants and let him know what it is to be responsobile means. We need to go back to when I was 7 yr old. He would not be able to sat down and he would know why and never look at another AUTO
