(April 28, 2008)—Many Central Texans spent the weekend studying the skies and watching the weather warnings crawl across their television screens.
Now that the storms have passed, area residents begin the process of cleaning up in the aftermath.
The storms struck much of McLennan County Friday, dumping marble-sized to golf-ball-sized hail and stretching into Limestone County with an unconfirmed tornado spotting reported near Coolidge.
Saturday the storms pounded Bell County with reports of up to five thousand residents suffering major hail damage.
A tornado funnel sighting was reported near Morgan's Point and the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado in touched down in Belton near Highway 190.
While it has been a roller-coaster couple of years for area farmers with record drought giving way last year to record rain-fall, this weekends storms have those farmers worried about the state of their crops.
Farmers hit by Friday's hail storms are now left wondering if they will be able to turn a profit at year's end.
The damage assessments begin this week.
