A Texas death row inmate who escaped from the Harris County jail, but who was later recaptured in Louisiana was arraigned Tuesday on an escape charge.

A judge in Houston says Charles Victor Thompson will have limited contact with the outside world.

That means no visitors other than Thompson's lawyers and no phone calls or mail.

The inmate appeared in court Tuesday wearing handcuffs and leg irons.

He escaped last Thursday from the Harris County Jail, where he was held after his re-sentencing over a 1998 double killing.

Thompson was captured Sunday in Shreveport, La., and returned to Houston.

He'll be under tight jail security until he can be returned to Texas death row in Livingston.

Thompson awaits execution over the shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend, Dennise Hayslip, and her new boyfriend, Darren Keith Cain.

Attorney Kurt Gumberger has been appointed to represent Thompson.
