Survivors of Hurricane Katrina who sought shelter in Texas may call a toll-free number to arrange to get their Louisiana child support payments.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and Louisiana child support director Robbie Endris are urging parents to call 1-800-256-4650 to report their new addresses.
"Now, more than ever, parents suffering from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina are depending on support payments to meet their children's basic needs," Abbott said.
"I am encouraging parents with Louisiana child support cases to call this toll-free number so child support payments can be mailed to their new addresses."
Because mail delivery has been disrupted in affected areas, Louisiana Support Enforcement Services will send child support payments to people's new locations, including shelters.
The toll-free number for the Louisiana Customer Service Center is available daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT.
Parents may also access the Louisiana child support payment inquiry screen online, but they must know their user ID and PIN to do so.
