A Long-Serving Member Of The Belton School Board Died Sunday

BELTON (December 25, 2012)--Connie Demerson, a long-serving member of the Belton School Board and graduate of Belton’s Harris High School, died Sunday after battling a lengthy illness.

She was 75.

Demerson was elected to the BISD board in 2004.

She graduated from West Belton Harris High School in 1955, where she was remembered as a standout athlete in track, softball and basketball and she led the Harris Dragons to a state track championship in 1955.

She went on to attend Prairie View A&M, then returned to Belton and went to work for the Veteran’s Administration where she worked in nursing until her retirement in 1994 after 27 years of service.

Demerson and her husband Red have four children, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements for Demerson still were pending on Monday afternoon.
