KILLEEN (December 31, 2012)—Killeen police were investigating Monday afternoon following a report of a mid-day shooting in a Killeen neighborhood.

Only few details had been released but it was known officers were sent at about 11:30 a.m. to a house in the 2800 block of Lavender in far west Killeen.

Patrol units and crime scene technicians were at the scene at about 12:30 p.m.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said officers were sent after a woman called police and said she had been shot by her husband.

By the time units arrived the man had shot and killed himself.

A justice of the peace pronounced the man dead at the scene just after 12:30 p.m.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Darnall Army Medical Center and later transferred to Scott and White Hospital, in Temple, in what police described as very serious condition.

It was not clear if anyone else was in the home at the time of the shootings.

Nor was it known if any weapon was recovered.
