WACO (January 1, 2013)—Waco police were investigating after a man was shot early Tuesday morning in North Waco.
Officers were sent at about 2:30 a.m. to the area of 20th and Proctor streets where Roy Harbert, 32, was found suffering a bullet wound in the chest.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said officers also found a 2004 Maroon Ford Crown Victoria in the street that appeared to be part of the crime scene.
A sergeant at the scene said two men in the Ford pulled into the area on Proctor between 20th and 21st and one of them got out of the car and asked someone to call 911.
The other man in the car jumped out and fled the scene.
Witnesses stated that the Ford had been traveling on Proctor and came to a stop in the 2000 block.
The vehicle had several flat tires and a bullet hole in it.
Swanton said Harbert man was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of his wound.
Harbert was reported to be in stable condition later Tuesday morning.
The man who fled the scene has not yet been located, Swanton said.
It was not clear which of the men was driving the car and officers were not sure exactly where the wounded man was shot.
