Good morning, it’s Sunday, May 4, the 125th day of 2008. There are 241 days left in the year. The forecast calls for at least some sun with highs in the upper 70s, but a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms appears in the forecast tonight.
A year ago today, a powerful tornado almost wiped Greensburg, Kan. off the map, killing at least 11. President Bush heads there today from his Central Texas ranch to mark the anniversary.

Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski was given four life sentences plus 30 years by a federal judge in Sacramento, California, under a plea agreement that spared him the death penalty. In Vatican City, the commander of the Swiss Guard, Alois Estermann, and his wife were found shot to death in their apartment; a Vatican inquiry concluded that a corporal, Cedric Tornay, had shot the couple and then turned the gun on himself.
Five years ago:
Tornadoes swept across the Central Plains and Midwest, resulting in 38 deaths and causing a wide swath of destruction. Police in Iraq's capital returned to work in force. Pope John Paul II proclaimed five new saints before a crowd of 1 million people in Madrid. Two American astronauts and one Russian cosmonaut ended up nearly 300 miles off course after returning from the international space station.

A tornado destroyed most of Greensburg, Kansas, killing at least 11 people. A judge sentenced hotel heiress Paris Hilton to 45 days in the Los Angeles County jail for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case by driving with a suspended license. (Hilton ended up serving three weeks.)
