(May 5, 2008)—An Aug. 5 execution date was set Monday for a Mexican-born Texas death row inmate whose sentence set off an international dispute that resulted in the U.S. Supreme Court rebuffing the White House.
A state district judge in Houston on set the lethal injection date for 33-year-old Jose Medellin for his role in the rape-slayings of two teenage girls 15 years ago.
In March, the U.S. Supreme Court voted against hearing the case of Medellin, saying President Bush overstepped his authority by trying to order Texas to reopen his case and the cases of 50 others born in Mexico and condemned for murders in the U.S.

"Patricia from Houston" i agree with you about the racist comments they have here! Crime is crime! it doesn't matter what color you are! you did the crime, your going to get it if your purple, yellow, brown, brown, black or white! but talking about mexicans here doesn't mean they are all the same! some came here so their kids can have a better life! so talk about the person that did wrong not about mexicans that are not doing anything!

If someone comes to this country and they commit vicious, horrendous crimes, why should they be given special treatment? If they are illigal, that means they can commit a crime and disappear to another state and use a different name and keep right on commiting crimes until they are finally caught. Do I believe in the death penalty? Very strongly.

You know I am reading a lot of racist comments toward Hispanics because of what Medellin did which let's face it here...Bundy, Dahmer...etc the list goes on and the crimes were just as brutal...everyone I think is missing the issue here hich is the "Treaty" not so much the "Death Penalty" if an American went over to another country and commited a crime they or yall would scream for the right to contact the US Embassy...yes I agree that this guy did a VERY horrible crime but we set that treaty for a reason and it should be followed. I dont beleive in the Death Penalty in any case and I have been on both sides...but all should quit making this a "Illegal/Racist" issue, and stick 2 the facts
