House Fire Leaves Two Local Firefighters Injured

By: James Warde Email

WACO (January 10, 2013)—Two Waco firefighters underwent medical evaluation Wednesday night after they were burned fighting a South Waco house fire.

Units were sent at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to a house in the 1700 block of South 18th Street where initial reports indicated there may have been someone trapped inside a burning house.

When firefighters arrived they learned the occupants had escaped without injury but as they battled the blaze, two firefighters were burned.

A Waco assistant fire chief said both were treated at the scene and returned to duty.

The two occupants of the house told fire investigators they heard a small explosion at the front of the house and soon after heard another one at the back.

There was no word Thursday morning on the cause of the fire and there had been no determination about the extent of the damage.

Fire marshals were investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
