Good morning, it’s Tuesday, May 6th, the 127th day of 2008. There are 239 days left in the year. The forecast calls for a chance of mainly morning showers and thunderstorms, highs in the lower 80s, and another chance of rain late tonight.

Seventy-one years ago today, on May 6, 1937, the hydrogen-filled German zeppelin Hindenburg burned and crashed in Lakehurst, N.J. killing 35 of the 97 people on board and a Navy crewman on the ground. The cause of the explosion remains a source of debate. Radio reporter Herbert Morrison recorded an eyewitness account of the fiery explosion (it wasn’t actually broadcast until the next day), during which he uttered the words, “Oh, the humanity.”
