(January 15, 2013)—A winter weather advisory remained in effect until noon for Bosque, Hill and Navarro Counties in Central Texas, but the rest of the region dodged a winter weather bullet as temperatures hovered at or just above freezing Tuesday morning.

None of the Central Texas counties with which News 10 checked Tuesday morning reported any problem with ice on roads.

Roads were wet, however, and the conditions contributed to a series of mostly minor traffic accidents.

There’s a 50 percent chance of rain or light sleet or snow flurries through mid morning Tuesday, but little if any accumulations were expected.

Highs Tuesday afternoon should be in the mid 30s.

Freezing precipitation made for a nasty commute Tuesday morning in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, leaving bridges and overpasses slick and in some cases impassable.

Snow and sleet accumulations of one quarter to one inch were reported across the advisory area and light, freezing drizzle was expected to cause an additional light coating of ice on elevated roadways including bridges and overpasses.

Hundreds of flights were grounded Tuesday morning in North Texas because of the ice and snow.

Southwest Airlines suspended operations at Dallas Love Field for about two hours Tuesday morning, but has resumed its regular schedule.

A spokeswoman had no specific number of flights canceled, but said Dallas-based Southwest usually has 125 daily nonstop departures from Love Field.

American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said the carrier canceled 231 flights Tuesday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

American Eagle canceled 90 flights, she said.

DFW airport remained open.

Spokesman David Magana said carriers were working to de-ice their planes.
