(May 6, 2008)—An 18-wheeler that overturned late Tuesday morning blocked Chapel Road south of Waco.

The truck overturned about a half mile north of the intersection with Old Lorena Road.

Authorities said the driver somehow lost control of the truck, which veered to the right, and then slid back to the left before overturning in the middle of the roadway.

The driver was briefly trapped in the wreckage of the cab, but was able to crawl out through a rear window.

Though not seriously injured, he was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

There was no immediate word on how long it would take to clear the wreckage.

I know the driver of the truck and i know he's a very good truck driver. It just so happened that it was mechanical failure on the trailer that caused the accident. Thankfully the driver is okay and that he was able to walk away from the horrible crash without any life-threatning injuries.

Isn't it enough to have to fight the big rigs on I-35 without having to encounter them on the narrow back roads.

It was only a matter of time before this happened on Chapel Road. The roadway is so narrow and these large trucks rarely observe the posted speed. Thank God no one was killed in this accident! Will we be so lucky next time? Slooooow down on Chapel Road!!
