(May 6, 2008) -- Police say an armed robbery suspect who died days after a shootout with police may be the only one who knew where the cash from two Cameron robberies is hidden.
Kenneth Andrew Tucker was the main suspect in the April 23 robberies, but took his own life after leading police on manhunt that crossed county lines.
He exchanged gunfire with authorities, was wounded and then shot himself in the head.
He later died.
Authorities say he didn’t have any of the stolen money with him when he shot himself and a search of his home turned up no evidence of the money.
Police say they think the money was stashed between the robberies and the exchange of gunfire in Heidenheimer, but they don’t know where.
Some $8,000 was taken during the two Cameron robberies but so far leads are coming up empty.
"Nobody knows anything about any money, denied seeing any money," Cameron Police Chief Patrick Guffey said.
"We're still researching it and any leads that do come in, we follow up."
Tucker was suspected of stealing $150 was taken from the Movie Gallery and another $7,000 to $8,000 from the Sunny Food Mart in back-to-back hold-ups in Cameron.
"I give them the videos, surveillance, whatever," said Sunny Food Mart Owner Shawn Ali. "The tapes I have, I give them."
According to police Tucker was identified as the armed robber from the store videos.
Guffey says finding the stashed cash is becoming more difficult by the minute, and the main suspect may have taken the location to the grave.
"It's hard to develop the information we need when technically there's no one there that we can talk to and get an answer from," Guffey said.
Guffey says he will meet with Milam County Crime Stoppers to see about getting a reward for any information leading to the stolen money.
