(May 7, 2008)—Storms that rumbled across the Interstate 35 corridor late Wednesday afternoon produced high winds, heavy rain and hail, but what started as a small storm Wednesday evening over Falls County triggered tornado warnings and spawned tornadoes in several counties as it moved toward the southeast.
There were reports of minor damage Wednesday night, but no injuries were reported.
Spotters reported a tornado on the ground three miles southeast of Bremond.
Trees and power lines were reported down on FM 46. One narrowly missed a mobile home nearby.
The Bremond Fire Department confirmed a brief touchdown in the small community of Petteway.
Penny- to quarter-sized hail was reported in parts of Falls and Freestone Counties.
The Weather Service cancelled a tornado warning for Leon County and a tornado watch for Leon and Robertson Counties just before 9:30 p.m. as the system moved out of the area.
The earlier storms Wednesday downed some trees in Hallsburg and were linked to a multiple-vehicle accident near the intersection of Loop 340 and University Parks Drive that temporarily closed down the roadway Wednesday evening.
Mexia’s Emergency Operations Center earlier reported penny-sized hail two miles west of Mexia near Prairie Hill in northwest Limestone County.
