(May 9, 2008)--At least 17 people required medical attention Friday after a chemical spill during preparations for a science class at a Houston-area high school.
Authorities say part of Tomball High School was evacuated because of the spill, but classes resumed by late morning.
A school district spokeswoman says a science teacher preparing an experiment for class spilled an alcohol-related chemical that produces fumes that can cause breathing problems.
Students attending classes in rooms near the science lab were taken to the nearby football stadium as a precaution.
The Tomball Fire Department Haz-Mat team responded to the spill.
District officials told KHOU television that ten teachers and five students were treated and released from Tomball Regional Medical Center.
Two other students remained at the health care facility.
