(May 9, 2008)—A White House spokesman fielded questions Friday about the upcoming wedding of first daughter Jenna Bush and fiancé Henry Hager, but he didn’t provide too many details about the private ceremony Saturday at the president’s ranch near Crawford.
He said members of the Bush family are beginning to converge in Central Texas for the outdoor wedding, to which about 200 guests have been invited.
He confirmed there will be a rehearsal dinner Friday night, but provided no other details.
Mr. Bush, the spokesman said, had an intelligence briefing Friday morning and then did some work on the ranch, where he’s spending time with family members and getting ready for the wedding.
The spokesman said he didn’t know whether the president would get the first dance with his daughter after the ceremony Saturday.
He said he wasn’t sure what the wedding attire would be and told reporters he would look into the menu for Friday night’s rehearsal dinner at a nearby ranch, which could double as a birthday celebration for the groom, who turns 30 Friday.
The small town of Crawford is celebrating by decorating an 18-foot angel statue with a veil and a bouquet in honor of the occasion.
Some local businesses are selling such memorabilia such as mugs and mouse pads bearing the image of the couple, but the spokesman told reporters that Mr. and Mrs. Bush are unlikely to be tempted by such merchandise.
"I know that the president and Mrs. Bush have a lot of pictures of Jenna and Henry," he said.
