(May 9, 2008)—The president, first lady and other members of the first family joined Jenna Bush, fiancé Henry Hager, the wedding party and the groom’s family Friday evening at a rehearsal dinner in Salado.
The dinner, hosted by Hager’s family and attended by about 100 people, was held at the Old Salado Springs Celebration Center, the White House said.
A second celebration started at 7 p.m. at the Salado Silver Spur Theater to which every wedding guest was invited, the White House said.
The president and first lady arrived in a motorcade escorted by a group of motorcycles, cheered by residents who had gathered to watch.
Earlier Friday, there was a bridal luncheon in Salado and Mrs. Bush, Jenna and twin Barbara remained there during the afternoon, the White House said.
Some of the wedding guests are staying in Salado, the White House said.
The wedding is Saturday evening at the president’s ranch near Crawford, where a white banner with red wedding bells on either side of "Congratulations Jenna and Henry" now stretches across a storefront.
A few doors down, a white wedding veil adorns an 18-foot metal sculpture of an angel, a gift to Crawford in 2004.
The rusty artwork, a side-view silhouette of an angel, is titled "Freedom's Angel of Steadfast Love."
Some businesses, like The Yellow Rose, are doing a brisk business selling coffee mugs with the couple's photo inside a red heart.
A barbecue lunch is planned Saturday before the evening ceremony, about which the White House has released few details.
