Beating Victim Dies, Husband In Custody Save Email Print

(May 12, 2008)--A man authorities suspect of beating his ex-wife to death with a baseball bat before perching himself on an overpass for about 90 minutes was in custody Monday afternoon.

Carrollton police say the 37-year-old man, whose identity wasn't released, spent some of the time sitting with his feet dangling over the ledge of westbound George Bush Turnpike over Interstate
35.

Police say a driver who said the man looked like he might jump first alerted them at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Dallas police took the man into custody at about 11 a.m.

About an hour before the man was seen on the bridge, police responded to a call to a Dallas office building.

The man’s 36-year-old ex-wife was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Police say the man waited for the woman to get to work and then attacked her with a bat.

She was just 36 and died a tragic death how terrible. They should have let him jump or pushed him and just said he jumped. I know that is mean but he beat his own wife to death. what a sick freak.

Rachel, yep guns do kill (baseball bats too)........So what. One could kill with just about anything if one is creative enough. Look at the history of other countries and nations that take the guns away? They often become countries were a race is subject to prejudice…....Most are not aware how Hitler and Mussolini took control of their Countries by removing guns from the people, and look what happened there. History often repeats itself. People will always find a way to kill each other guns or no guns from the stone to bronze to steel etc. These to dictators are not the only ones there are many others are like them Pol Pot, amine from Africa etc. So get real and realize the reality of life, this is why the founding fathers decided to make the second amendment, hello, ring, ring anyone home……………..

In defense of Sue: I got the impression she made the comment meaning that if he was an illegal immigrant it would just give some people even more ammunition on the anti-immigration front. And while I agree that they should have let him jump, I know that bridge- it goes right over 6 lanes of traffic, which is fairly busy all day. If they had let him jump, he likely would have caused accidents and possibly numerous injuries on the road below.

I was referring to the Sue who was discussing the illegal Mexican immigrant. To SLY: There is no purpose for guns other than to kill - Protection: Means injury and often death - even if unintended; hunt is to go for the kill; sport - I can't imagine that any of that would have a basis other than power, death and injury either. What is illogical about that?

This is a sad and tragic story. I don't understand what makes people go off the deep end like that, I mean what can you gain by hurting or killing someone else. It doesn't matter what you do, the words they said, or the actions they made are still going to be there, they can't be taken back. Why do you have to take a life to validate your own?

John E. - how about promoting a world of non-violence instead of defending all of the ways that we can make it violent. Obviously, guns have one intent - to kill. Baseball bats were meant for playing a game. Yes, some idiots will use anything for killing, but an objects intended purpose should make a difference in how we deal with it and legislate or not legislate it.
