Suspect In North Texas Beating Death In Police Custody Save Email Print

A | A | A

(May 13, 2008)—A Texas man who authorities say beat his ex-wife to death with a baseball bat before perching on an overpass for about 90 minutes has been charged with murder in her death.

Dallas police say that 38-year-old Brent Douglas Stephens was jailed in lieu of $1 million bond.

Police say that Stephens waited for his ex-wife, 36-year-old Denise A. Stephens, to get to work this morning at a Dallas office and then attacked her with a bat.

She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

About an hour after Dallas police were called to her place of work, police in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton say a driver alerted them to a man who looked like he might jump from the overpass.

Carrollton police say Brent Stephens spent some of the time sitting with his feet dangling over the ledge of westbound George Bush Turnpike over Interstate 35.

He was arrested without incident.
