Jellyfish Invasion Underway On Texas Coast Save Email Print

(May 13, 2008)--Summer is still weeks away, but pesky jellyfish are already making their way to Galveston beaches.

Galveston Island Beach Patrol chief Peter Davis says the warmer the water, the higher the likelihood that stings will occur.

Patrol personnel treated a hundred jellyfish stings on Sunday, alone, and officials say an 11-year-old boy was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment of pain.

Davis told the Galveston County Daily News that pain is the most typical consequence of a sting, although some swimmers may experience allergic reactions.

The Beach Patrol flies a blue flag when an advisory has been posted about jellyfish and other potential dangers.
