GRAND PRAIRIE (January 31, 2013)—A former Waco man wanted in a shooting Wednesday in Grand Prairie that left a Waco woman dead and her mother wounded, was arrested Thursday in North Texas.

Detective Mark Beseda confirmed the arrest of Christopher Darrell Jefferson, 31, late Thursday afternoon.

Dallas police made the arrest.

Jefferson was in the Grand Prairie Detention Center Thursday evening in lieu of $1 million bond.

Jefferson was thought to be hiding either in the Dallas area or to be headed for the Waco area, driving either a maroon Pontiac Grand Am sedan with Texas license plate DX3-G733 or a white Chevrolet Caprice.

Jefferson and the woman who died both are from Waco and the car for which police were looking was registered in Waco, Beseda said.

Grand Prairie police believe both the victim and Jefferson have family in Waco.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton declined to comment on what efforts Waco police might be making to locate Jefferson citing an ongoing investigation, but he did confirm Waco police had been notified of the search.

At around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday officers were sent to an address in the 2000 block of Eva Street, in Grand Prairie, where they found two woman suffering gunshot wounds.

Latoya McGowan, 24, and another woman who was identified as McGowan's mother both were taken to Methodist Hospital, in Dallas, where McGowan later was pronounced dead.

Her mother was treated and later released.

A press release says McGowan was the mother of Jefferson's children and that the children were present at the residence when their mother and grandmother were shot.

Beseda said the three children, aged 3- to 6-years-old, witnessed the shootings.

The children were taken into protective custody, Beseda said.
