$80,000 Stolen From Central Texas Church Save Email Print

(May 14, 2008)—The Bell County Grand Jury Wednesday indicted Paula Cecil of Fort Hood in connection with the theft of more than $80,000 from St Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Killeen.

Killeen police have been investigating the theft since Jan. 9, when church officials reported a discrepancy in financial records.

Police were called after Extraco Bank advised the church that a number of checks had been paid to the same church employee over a period of about five months.

“Through the investigation and audits it was discovered that the church’s administrative assistant had misapplied funds for her own personal use; this had been occurring since August of 2007,” police said in a press release Wednesday.

Cecil is charged with misapplication of fiduciary funds over $20,000 but less than $100,000.

Bell County deputies arrested Cecil at her residence without incident, police said.

She was in the Bell County Jail Wednesday night in lieu of $100,000 bond.

A few weeks back the girl that was the secretary at our church stole $27,000 from our church in Cameron. What is with people stealing from churches?!?!? They need to get right with God!

Somehow i just dont feel sorry that a church got "robbed"! Many of them are doing just that from their "flock"! Many use manipulation and intimidation to get those dollars flowing into the church's account!

The article clearly states that she was using this money for personal use and misapplied funds....that is stealing, and if she needed the money I'm sure she could have got together with the Church and I'm sure they would have helped her or tried to accommodate her needs. I do not feel sorry for this woman-I feel sorry the victims who donated the money to church and had it taken away from them from a supposibly responsible but very vindictive woman.

for all the people who left comments you didn't know her situation. This church had problems in the pass and now there trying pen everything on her. So your talking about the the Lord house that's a church I don't want to be apart of seems like they took advantage of her situation.
